Home renovation can be overwhelming, especially if you are doing project management yourself. No matter how big your renovation project, it involves so many details to look into. One of the major challenges is to lease with all the vendors and convey your ideas to them.
Honestly, it is very difficult to make others visualise our imaginations/ideas. Luckily, there are few websites and apps that offer a free house ID planner. Even though they offer limited service, it is good enough to convert ideas into 3D. This makes our life much easier to discuss with contractors and vendors. Hence, we did this 3D rendering ourselves just so that will be easier for discussion. This is not a perfect 3D, however it is good enough since it was done for free.

Renovation Areas
Since our unit is an end-lot, we want to extend the kitchen to make it a wet kitchen and the existing one as a dry kitchen. The existing kitchen is not ideal for Asian cooking and is way too small. Probably a single-sliding door from the dry kitchen to the new wet kitchen. But we are in the midst of discussion, either to extend the kitchen at the back or side? We will decide after discussing with ID/contractors.

Besides that, we are planning to have a patio. It is just a Malaysian thing: if its a corner/end-lot; must have a patio. Of course, I personally like a place to chill and bbq on special occasions.
Another idea is a room for workout or home gym. Both of us are into fitness and we used go to the gym frequently. Ever since the Covid19 pandemic, we have stopped going. Therefore, we thought it’s a good idea to have a home gym for a long run. At least we can cut costs on gym membership.

Additionally, we’d like to spend on the laundry area, which is at the back. It won’t be anything fancy. A functional space to do laundry will do.
3D Rendering

I started learning 3D softwares long before getting the house key. Just to get the grip of it. There are few websites offering free house 3D design service. After trying a few websites, I decided to go with Homestyler.com for a few reasons.

It was the easiest one to work with and they offer trendy 3D models to work with. The only tedious part was to get the measurements right. Other than that, it is just a ‘drag and throw’ method. The in-app 3D models are trendy and FREE to use. However, they have more premium items to purchase. Honestly the free models are more than good enough for beginners.
Additionally we can download 3D models from online and upload it on Homestyler. But not all the models can be used. I managed to download over 10 items from various websites and used them in my projects. Bear in mind, this will be our rough 3D rendering only, we won’t be able to get the exact colour for furniture etc. There are tonnes of tutorial videos available on Youtube.
We will be sharing our home owning to renovation journey of our first home. Check out the series of articles here.
